Windows XP Setup Instructions


To Create a Dial-up Connection in Windows XP.


1) Click the Network and Internet Connections icon in the Windows Control Panel.

From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.


2) Click the Switch to Classic View


3) Double-click the Network Connections icon.


4) Click the Create a new connection icon.


5) Click the Next button.


6) Select Connect to the Internet.

Click the Next button.


7) Click the Next button.


8) Select Connect using a dial-up modem.

Click the Next button.


9) In the ISP Name field, type a name to identify your connection (ie. A1Com)

Click the Next button.


10) In the Phone number field, type your local access number exactly as it needs to be dialed.

Note: If you require 10-digit dialing in order to access a local number, make sure to include your area code.

Note: Remember... Your local telephone company has teh final word on whether a call is local for you.

Note: Please contact them to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call.


Click the Next button.


11) In the User name field, type yourusername@access.

12) In the Password field, type your password.

13) In the Confirm password field, type your password.

14) Uncheck the box next to Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.

15) Check the box next to Make this the default Internet connection.

16) Uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection.

17) Click the Next button.


18) Check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop

If you wish to have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop.

19) Click the Finish button.


20) Close all windows.

21) From the Start menu, click Settings, and choose Network Connections.


22) Right-click your dial-up connection, then choose Properties.


23) Click on the Networking tab.

24) Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list.

25) Click the Properties button.


26) Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.


27) Click the OK button.


28) Click OK, when needed, to Close all windows. / Otherwise click on the "x" in the upper right corner of each window.

29) You have successfully created a Dial-up Connection in Windows XP.
